PresGar Implements RamSoft's Digital Mammography Software

Less than a year into the process, RamSoft, a preeminent developer of affordable health care information engineering, has successfully helped PresGar, the nation's largest privately-owned medical imaging service caller, establish a significant digital mammography presence at octad of its imaging centers.

The consequence has been increased efficiency among PresGar mammographers and technologists and substantial savings for the company. If things go as planned, a one-ninth center whitethorn soon join the ruffle, combining RamSoft's PowerServer PACS and Gateway Routers with PresGar's raw digital mammography system.

"It's a house run," Dave Kost, Imaging Informatics Manager for PresGar, said of the consolidation. "We couldn't be happier."

PresGar, of Tampa, FL, operates 36 imaging centers that nail an estimated 350,000 exams per annum. To facilitate optimal viewing, 10 PowerServer PACS, some serving more than one imaging shopping centre, along with three Gateway Routers have been installed by RamSoft, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The digital effort began in October 2007 when the first new mammography system was integrated with the RamSoft technology. Seven other systems were added through mid-2008, and a ninth system will be implemented by and by this class. The new digital mammography systems, in New York, Virginia, Ohio and Florida, are replacement film-screen mammography units at each core.

"PresGar was really our first big account in terms of establishing our solution as ideal for a distributed outpatient imaging center mathematical group," said Vijay Ramanathan, President and CEO of RamSoft. "The human relationship has allowed us to prove that our answer is superior to anything else in that kind of environs."

In making the act to digital, PresGar had one predominate goal: to enable the capture of superior images that tooshie be manipulated for optimal viewing using the RamSoft mammography mental faculty. The PACS facilitates both on-site screening and transmittal to remote locations for off-site review.

Offered in several configurations, the PowerServer provides a reliable, fault-tolerant, web-based approach to PACS, accommodating limitless users and workstations. Features range from study trailing from start to cultivation and unpaired real-time worklist flexibility, to prefetching of current and prior studies and pliable viewing protocols specific to modality and body division. A suite of clinical tools designed to optimize images and a digital dictation module also are provided.

An important component is RamSoft's mammography mental faculty, which automatically sorts left and right digital double series and matches them to prior films for easy compare.

"What we've done is make digital mammography function similarly to all of the other modalities offered by PresGar," Ramanathan said. "That has eliminated the need for them to make a separate, pricey investment in mammography. No longer does a company such as PresGar motivation to make one solution for all of the modalities and a break up solution for mammography."

In less than a year the RamSoft collaboration already has benefited PresGar. The company saved hundreds of thousands of dollars by opting not to purchase dedicated workstations; film has been eliminated, also saving PresGar a substantial amount of money of money; technologists and mammographers ar more efficient, enabling more studies to be completed and revenues to increase; the quality of images captured has been enhanced, increasing reader confidence and minimizing liability; and images can be quickly and easily genetic to remote locations. Clearly, RamSoft is playing an important part in PresGar's transition to digital mammography and boilers suit growth.

Numbers underscore that. Between 40 and 50 studies are completed day-to-day at each site compared with 18 to 20 per day a year ago. PresGar's overall efficiency has increased by 30%-40%.

"Digital mammography combined with RamSoft PACS has saved us tens of thousands of dollars beyond the workstation savings, and that's a big deal," Kost aforementioned. "Imaging centers face a very ruffianly climate these days, and we accept to do what we can to be efficient and profitable. RamSoft PACS and its Gateway Routers have gone a long way toward helping us achieve that."

Surgical Services Should Be A Global Public Health Priority, Say PLoS Editors

Five
major reasons why universal proposition surgical services should be considered a
public health priority were published by the editors of PLoS
Medicine in a piece released on August 25, 2008.

They
define surgical conditions as any situations that ask suture,
surgical incision, excision, handling, or any invasive procedures, usually
with the influence of anaesthesia. The editors put away the following
reasons for these conditions' importance in the populace health spectrum:

The world's load of disease is significantly composed of
surgical conditions. According to one estimation, this is as high as
11%.
While developing areas suffer from more surgical problems
than the roost of the world, it still suffers from a shortage of
surgeons and surgical procedures.
When compared with other major global populace
health interventions, such as childhood vaccination, surgical
conditions can be enormously cost effective.
The
infrastructure, supplies, and human resources that are necessary for
surgery will contribute to the abilities of primary care as it helps
strengthen health systems.
Surgical services ar possible
even in settings with highly constrained resources, despite
considerable hurdles. In one exercise, they talk over the crisis in
sub-Saharan Africa.

Today, the editors say, surgeons and
globacl public health professionals are orgasm together in a movement
to advertize surgery as one of the of import tools in global populace
health.

The editors ar conscious of the funding restraints of
such a task: "How can this movement now bring donors on board given
that
they own so far shown small willingness to fund programs outside the
traditional purview of public health?" They suggest that surgery has
enormous relevance to the 2015 United Nations Millennium Development
Goals, the plan of development agreed to by all countries and leading
institutions of development.

For
instance, Goal 4, which focuses on reducing baby mortality, and Goal
5, which aims to improve enatic health, volition both be improved by
surgical services through injury care, obstetric surgery, and general
surgical services. Even Goal 6, targeting infectious diseases, canful be
address through procedures such as male circumcision, which has been
shown to thin the risk of HIV transmission.
